Ordered some new PC parts last week and they came in today. I got a AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition Processor - Six Core, 6MB L3 Cache, 3MB L2 Cache, 3.30GHz, Socket AM3 and a MSI 890FXA-GD65 AMD Socket AM3 Motherboard - ATX, Socket AM3, 890FX Chipset, 2133MHz DDR3 (O.C.), SATA 6.0 Gb/s, RAID, 8-CH Audio, Gigabit LAN, USB 3.0, CrossFireX Ready board.

This thing should scream!!! I haven't built a PC since about '05 or 06 so I'm due for an upgrade. With all the bike and car shit going down around here I just haven't had time or cash.

Picked up a new toy last weekend. According to the eBay seller its a 1932 and according to the lathe itself it's a 13" swing with a 5' bed and 24.5" between centers. I haven't fired it up yet because I need to change the plug on it.

Well not so much a banjo.

My buddy Dan invited me down because Rick's Cycle Parts in Rainsville, AL was having a swap meet and drag races. I hadn't hung out with Dan and Tina in a while so I took the opportunity to kill 2 birds with one stone.

Dan told me to bring my riding gear because he was going to loan me his Sporty to ride. Well I get down there and I find out his Sporty is hand shift. We didn't really have time to teach me how to ride a hand shifted bike so Dan called a buddy of his who loaned us his Sporty. I tell you what, this is a sweet bike! It's light, powerful, easy to ride. I really enjoyed riding it.

The swap meet was cool. I didn't find anything I liked. Well, of course I found stuff I liked, but I didn't buy anything. My money is destined for another part I need.

Frame is back...

Clay had asked me a while back to pick up a donor Triumph for him since I was coming up to Richmond to get my frame.

I left Nashville at approx. 5:30 pm local time. I had no really set schedule but 5:30 was a lot later than I wanted to leave.

I got to Richmond at a little after 5am their time. I texted Clay and he said he was at the shop. He let me in and we BSed for a while before calling it a night (morning?).

He offered me his couch and I caught a couple Z's. We went back to the shop and hung out with a friend of his for a while. Then we unloaded the donor bike and I put my frame in the truck to start the drive home.

Well I needed to order some new tools specific to working on older Triumph motorcycles. I ordered these 3 from my friends at Lowbrow Custom.

1) Clutch Hub Puller Tool

2) Clutch Plate Locking Tool

Crankshaft Pinion 3 Jaw Puller Tool

Unfortunately they were out of the 4th tool I needed.

Cam Gear Puller Factory Tool

I found this one on eBay.

The reason I need these tools is because after talking to a few people I have come to the conclusion that I need to update my intake cam to a 750 camshaft. So I need to split the cases to do so. This will be a good experience since I have a 78 Triumph that also needs to be rebuilt from the sludge trap up.

Some more new garage stuff (continued)

So I posted a pic the other day of 14 bags of concrete and a mixer we rented. Well, this is what it was for.

Open area in back of the garage

Making sure the form is squared.

Form built.

Tamping the ground to be sure it's level.

Rebar for strength.

Drilling into the garage foundation to connect with the outside concrete.

Rebar installed into the garage foundation.

Concrete poured. This was after the first mixer broke. When Lisa got home they went back to Home Depot to get another mixer.

Done! It's a pad to put my new air compressor on so it is outside and
a) not taking up room in the garage and
b) so it doesn't make noise in the garage.
Ben and I will be building a "house" for the compressor soon.

So we cleaned out the garage and pulled the carpet up. Wes came by today and stripped the carpet glue off the floor and laid the stain seal. I had it done in a light gray. With the lights on you can already see it's brighter.

Lisa and I went to Lowes today to look at paint swatches. We're going with a semi-gloss that is scrub-able and resists staining. This is a garage but it is also my home away from home. :)

21" wheel...

This is the 21" wheel, Avon tire and late model Triumph disk hub I'll be running on my 69 Triumph. I'm sending the hub and wheel off to Buchanan Spoke and Wheel to get laced. They've been doing wheels for a long time and can lace just about any wheel to any hub.

I'm not sure if I'm going to anodize the hub black or chrome the wheel. If I anodize the hub I'll need to do the rear hub and powdercoat the rear wheel. We'll see what I decide to do. Considering the front wheel is the only black piece it'll probably be easier to chrome it and polish the hubs.

Oh yeah. Can't believe I forgot to post this.

Got some more new ink. I've been working with Chris Saint Clark at Kustom Thrills Tattoo. In Dec I just got the Triumph logo done.

For the next few months I tried to decide what I wanted to compliment it. So I decided to get the tank badge inked around the logo.

So here it is.

I seriously like the work and can't wait to get some more. Chris is a consummate professional and real easy to work with.

but I did actually clean up some more of the garage tonight. On top of that I had to fix the locking mechanism on the PODS container. When the guy delivered it he bent it up. I took it off and bent it back the right way.

Ben and I got a lot of the heavy shit out. Ive been sick since Tuesday and that on top of my own laziness I haven't moved anything else yet. My friend Wes came over and gave me an estimate on staining the concrete floor. We talked about epoxy but for what I want to be able to do staining the floor is a better option. In order to crack the stain you actually need to crack the concrete.

We also talked about building a small room off the garage to put my new air compressor in. Wes did sound design work at one time so he knows how to soundproof the outbuilding. Don't want to piss of the neighbors at 1am LOL

I went and saw SCOTS tonight. Wow, what a show. I am new to SCOTS, but I've heard they put on a good show. I am so glad I went. Ran into some friends while there, like Justin, Jane and Noah, Wally from Shaky DeVille, Nic Ronny Andrew and Geoff from Hillbilly Casino, and Nick D. (who throws a kick ass party at his farm in Oct). Hillbilly Casino opened the show and as always rocked the house.

Wally told me about having a great time touring the west coast with his band.

Justin showed me a new app for taking pics on my Droid called FXCamera - it's pretty cool. It lets you take pics in fish-eye, Polaroid and toy camera.

Got myself a new air compressor. It's a Husky from Home Depot, but for all intents and purposes it's a Campbell Hausfeld. It's a 60 gal, 11.5/10.2 SCFM @ 40/90 PSI, etc. It should power anything I'd use in my garage.

When I got home from work last night I decided it was time to finally finish cutting up my frame. I pulled out my new oxyacetylene torch and got to work.

Hoo boy! The torch makes short work of converting a 69 Triumph frame into pieces of a frame. I don't have any pics of doing the actual work, but I do have the aftermath documented.

Jerry Lee Lewis - Third Man Records

Fri night I took off from work so Lisa and I could rock at Foobar2 with Cutthroat Shamrock. Before we left I got a tweet from Third Man Records regarding Record Store Day. They said there were still tickets available for Jerry Lee Lewis. I knew there was going to be a special guest there but I didn't know who. So I jumped on the internet and double checked Third Man Records website and there it was:

"Due to outrageously high demand for our sold out Jerry Lee Lewis show / Live LP taping on Record Store Day, we have decided to move the whole concert (grand piano, LJ and all) from our venue inside Third Man outside for a Third Man Record Store Day block party!"

Wow! This would be the 3rd original rock and roller I'd get to see in like 2 years (Little Richard and Wanda Jackson respectively). So I placed my order for 2 tix so Lisa and I could go.

So we show up on time, but while texting our friends Justin and Mo, things weren't looking good. They told me that inside sources were saying it was too cold for JLL to play. It was a miserable day. It was 51 degrees and overcast. I'd been fighting a cold for 2 days before that so I was pretty miserable myself. While standing in the info line I saw Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen walk by.

We saw a guy that works at Third Man (you can't miss these people, they all wear yellow with buttons that say TMR on them etc.) who came by and was answering questions. He said that they were postponing Jerry Lee until today at 1pm but it would be in our best interest to get there at between 11 and noon. So I got up early this morning and we shuffled our asses downtown.

Today was a GORGEOUS day, perfect for one of the kings of rock-and-roll to play - 71 and sunny. We got our wrist bands and then we got in a little while later.

About 40 minutes later Jerry Lee came out and sat down at the piano. All I can say for a 75 year old man he still rocks! He played a few songs I don't know and then he played Great Balls of Fire and Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On. This was a live LP taping so he didn't have a lot of time to play. I think the whole show was about an hour. He could have played for 15 mins and I'd have been happy just to say I'd seen him. He said he needed a drink and wanted a Sprite. He said he loves Coca-Cola but the doctors say it's bad for his kidneys, then he shrugged. Edward James Olmos gave him a Sprite onstage. Yeah, this is Nashville. There are stars everywhere :).

Fired up my lathe for the first time tonight. My buddy Chad from Pearson Customs made me some aluminum riser bushings for the springer I got from him also. Well the CFL neck seems to be bigger than any other bike. The bottom bushings were about 1/8th" too big. So I set up my lathe to give it a shot. A little while later they were the perfect size.

So over the past 10 years since I built my Triumph I have done a lot of changes to the frame to make things easier, better etc. Well after all that welding and cutting pieces off my frame is a bit tattered and was prety much beyond repair.

Enter my buddy Clay from Atom Bomb Custom Motorcycles. I saw this post from him on the Jockey Journal where he took a shitty frame and completely rebuilt it. I've talked to Clay before so I knew he was cool. I sent him an email describing and with pics of what I wanted to do. He quoted me a price I could live with

Flogging Molly

Lisa and I went to see Flogging Molly at the War Memorial in Nashville. Best show this year! Hard to get good pics. We were supposed to be on the floor, but they shipped us upstairs and the only seats we could get were all the way in the back. I only brought my small camera. The War Memorial's security/staff could have been a lot better. Even at the Ryman where the seats are very uncomfortable the staff is much friendlier and more helpful.

So it's been a while since I've posted but not much has been happening. Only been to a couple of shows such as Arson Anthem and Less Than Jake. I have pics and I'll post them up when I have more time.

Here's a new thing I tried out with my camera and The GIMP photo software. It's called cloning and it's really cool. Other than my foot being messed up I am happy with it. This was my second attempt because my first one came out green (don't ask :))

Next time I'll do some different stuff and make it better. :)

Just before Christmas I won a front seat for my 55 Ford on eBay. The guy I got it from said he would not ship, so before I bid I of course looked up where he was. He is in Yulee FL about 30 mins outside Jacksonville. Google Maps says its a 9 hour drive, right!

So, I took off from work on Fri. I had spent all week trying to figure out what vehicle to drive. Lisa's Hyundai is better on gas than my truck, but no matter what I do I can't seem to get comfortable in it. My truck is a beast on gas but it is such a pleasure to drive. Well I took my truck. I won't tell you how much I spent in gas :).

I drove to the gas station and filled my tank for the first time since I have owned the truck. I went around the corner to the Valvoline and got an oil change. I needed a new serpentine belt so I let them replace that too. I'd rather have it be fixed than it break somewhere in Nowheresville, GA.

I finally left at around 5:30pm CST and checked into my hotel at 4am EST. After you get off I-16 the drive through GA sucks! - most of the drive is 65mph but as you get closer to small towns the speed limit drops and town it drops to 35! I takes a while to get back to 65 again because small towns aren't so small.

I checked into my hotel at 5am Sat morning at the Comfort Inn in Yulee. The guy behind the counter was pretty cool. He dropped the weekend rate a few bucks for me because I checked in so late. I ended up asking him to extend my stay another day (check out is at 11am so they charge you for a 2nd day if you stay later than that which I find ridiculous. Just charge me for what I stay and cut out the bullshit) so I could get some sleep. I did have a long drive back after all. I checked out at 3pm after a restless sleep.

I called Johnny from a gas station on the corner of SR 200 and U.S. 17 to get directions to where the seat was and it turns out I was 2 miles away. We loaded the seat in my truck and shot the bull for a while. Guy had an awesome array of vehicles from a 55 Ford Vicky to a late 60s Plymouth muscle car (GTX maybe) with a 440 in it.

I then headed home. I got to my door at around 2:30ish this morning. I slept really good today!

A Christmas Story - that is all!

to say the least.

Monday and Tuesday - Lisa was in Cincinnati for work, so I got to come home early to take care of the pooch.

Wednesday - Lisa came back from Cincinnati while I was at work. I had only taken a 1/2 day though because the Koffin Kats were playing FooBar that night. They are a great psychobilly band from Detroit. I've been listening to them for a while. I got there in time to pretty much catch Shaky DeVille, Slim Chance and the Can't Hardly Playboys, and Liberty. A couple of pics of Slim Chance are in the album.

Thursday night I was actually at work all night. Woohoo!

Friday morning I went to Kustom Thrills Tattoo in E. Nashville for some new ink. My buddy Chris Saint Clark did me up right. It's been 24 years since I had ink done.

Friday night I took a 1/2 night to go see Commonwealth of American Natives, Have Nots, Flatfoot 56, and The Street Dogs. So I get off work at 7. I run home to get Lisa and we stop to get something to eat. This puts us at The Muse at around 9-ish. Apparently we came in during Flatfoot 56. They were the 3rd band of 4. So basically I paid full price for 1.5 bands.

The night didn't totally suck tho. While we were at The Muse we ran into Nic Roulette and Andrew D from Hillbilly Casino, Matt and Wally C from Shakey DeVille and Wally's girl Theandra, Theo A. from Jane Rose and the Dead End Boys and his friend Chris. Nic invited us to Layla's Bluegrass Inn to watch them jam. So we headed up to Lower Broadway. Parking is a BITCH! We drove around for like 20 mins looking for a spot. Finally we found one on Broad and went to Layla's. HBC rocked as usual.

Sat night we went to McNamara's Irish Pub & Restaurant in Donelson to hang with our friends Brian and Robin and listen to traditional Irish music. I even got them to play Lanigans Ball. I know the song as (F)lannigan's Ball from the Dropkick Murphys. Basically the same song, a great party that has gone awry.

So that was my interesting week. Hope to have more in the future.

Last night at FooBAR..

Last night we went to see Stuck Lucky, Whiskey Daredevils, Liberty and Hillbilly Casino. What an awesome show. It was pegged as Punk & Rockabilly meet again!!! And they sure did!

As usual all the pics I took are in my Picasa album.

First band up was Stuck Lucky. They were kinda ska punk with a trombone in the mix.

Next up was the Whiskey Daredevils. These guys were really good, especially their guitarist. The lead singer was a trip with his hand gestures and facial expressions. They were a lot of fun.

Liberty is the next band up. They don't have a lot of songs yet, so they have a shorter set than the other bands. I didn't take many pics of them because I have a few already.

HBC was the last band of the evening. They rocked as usual. 'Nuff said.

Been a while...

since I've posted. Not a whole lot going on, just working and waiting for the holidays to be over.

Anyway, I got some new lenses for my Canon S5 from CameraWorks NW on eBay. It came with 2 lenses one telephoto and one wide angle/macro extender, adapter Tube, and 3-piece filter kit. The filter kit came with UV, Polarizing Filter, F-DL filters. I'll be trying these out here shortly and posting my results.

Legendary Shack Shakers/Reverend Horton Heat

We went to Exit/In on Thursday night to see Th' Legendary Shack Shakers and Reverend Horton Heat. Wow, what a great show. Th' Shack Shakers are a very frantic show, whereas the Rev is more laid back. Rev also had the pedal steel player that played for Ernest Tubb.
We met up with our friends Brian and Robin. We also saw Geoff Firebaugh and Nic Roulette from The Hillbilly Casino and Wally Cockcroft from Shaky Deville. Also ran into my buddy Ben's friend Wes.

We had a great time but sadly Lisa has a new job and we had to leave early so she could wake up in the AM. Not everyone gets to sleep til noon . :)

Tonight is the P B aRt show at FooBAR with Hillbilly Casino. Should be fun.

The 5.6.7.8.'s in Nashville

Well I just got back from seeing the 5.6.7.8's at Third Man Studios in Nashville. I don't think they come here very often so this may have been a once in a lifetime deal. Third Man Studios is Jack White's studio here in Nashville. He is re-releasing the 5.6.7.8's self-titled album here in the US.

If you don't know who these girls are just watch Kill Bill Vol 1. They are the all girl band that was playing when Uma Thurman was killing off the Crazy 88s. They did mostly originals, but spiced it up with covers of Great Balls of Fire (in Japanese) and Hanky Panky (in English). They also did Woo Hoo, I Walk Like Jayne Mansfield, Three Cool Chicks, and some more I don't know. Jack even played guitar on one song with them. All in all, these chicks rocked the house. I'd like to see them play another venue like the Exit/In or The End but this was good.

I also did not get any pics this time. This was Jack Whites "house" and the signs said "No pictures or video" and I respect that.

Work is gonna be a KILLER at 7am :)

We've slowly been making changes around our house. One thing that has bothered the crap out of me was the outside lights. There were 4 of these hideous lights, 2 on the front of the house and 2 on the garage. My buddy Ben and I changed out the lights on the garage a few months ago. I like the look but, I don't care for sensor lights.

Last week I bought new lights for the front of the house. When I was at Lowes today I found they still had the exact same lights I got last time, so this weekend is "installing new lights weekend". I got the 1st one done just a little while ago.

Lisa and I went to the Tennessee Boondocks Festival in Lebanon last night - saw part of the Jones', Porter Hall Tennessee, Hillbilly Casino, the Psycho DeVilles, and Jason and the Punknecks. Saw some old friends and made new friends. I had a great time

Here I tried bokeh I think. Wikipedia says "In photography, bokehis the blur, or the aesthetic quality of the blur, in out-of-focus areas of an image, or "the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light." I think I got it :) I'm not sure if I actually pulled it off or not.

The Muse hosted Dr. Gangrene's Horror Hootenanny last night. It was open to humans and zombies. We got there late so we missed Alucard. First band we caught was Spookhand. Creeping Cruds were up next, followed by Psycho Charger. All in all they all rocked fucking hard.

Yesterday Lisa, her brother Stan and I went to the Redneck Rumble in Lebanon.I had an awesome time. Jane Rose started off the music but we were too busy looking at cars and bikes.We did catch most of Shaky DeVille and Hellfire Revival. Lisa's brother left early to watch the Tenn/Fla game. I don't get it but that's just me.

Lisa and I went to see the Westbound Rangers, Crowfield and The Delta Saints at Exit/In Friday night. The Saints released their new EP "Bird Called Angola" that night and tore it up in Nashville. The Westbound Rangers are a bluegrass band. Crowfield was rock and reminded me of Counting Crows. If you get a chance to see any of these bands, I suggest you do so.

Unfortunately I didn't get near as much done as I expected this weekend. I'm short one cylinder base gasket. :( I really wanted to get the cylinders on today. Oh well, my guy will send me the base gasket and I'll get some more done after work.

I did, however, get my tappet blocks without breaking the ears off! That's always a good thing.

My motor looks so alone over there by itself.

I also got this Biltwell 4130 Chromoly Seat Hinge from Lowbrow Customs. It fits my frame perfectly. Now I just have to tack-weld it on there so I can take it to someone and get it TIG welded on. I wouldn't trust my welding to get me down the driveway right now. :)

Today I checked the piston ring gap for the 750 kit I'm installing on my 69 Triumph. I only had to file one ring a little bit.

Lisa will be busy this weekend so I'll wile away in the garage. Hoping I can at least get the cylinders and head on. We'll see though.

Wanda "Queen of Rockabilly" Jackson performed last night at Mercy Lounge after receiving a Lifetime Achievement awardduring the Americana Music Festival. Dale Watson opened and the DexRomweber Duo closed. We saw Dale but left before the Dex Romweber Duo. We aren't country fans at all but I do respect that it is rock androll's roots. We wouldn't be were we are today withoutcountry/bluegrass/blues etc to kick it all off.

I also saw Jack White of the White Stripes at the bar, but I didn't bother him. He produced Wanda's new single.

Lisa and I went to see The Delta Saints and Marcy Playground this evening at 3rd and Lindsley. The Delta Saints went on at 8 and we got there at 8:30 so we basically missed their whole set.

Marcy Playground put on a good show. Never really been my style but I do like Deadly Handsome Man.

Delta Saints CD release party with Crowfield is Sept 10th. We promised their bass player we'd be there on time for that. We'll see :).

These are GMA W-7 wheels with a GMA pulley brake. Sadly the wheels are for 2000-up HD and the pulley brake is for 99-down. Took the rear wheel and brake to R&B Cycles here in Nashville to see if they can mill out the hole about 1/8th of an inch. I hope so because I really like these wheels.

Went to Mercy Lounge in Nashville last night to see The Jug Huggers - we got there a bit late due to the fact that I'll be late to my own funeral. They were pretty good.

After we left Mercy Lounge we decided that we were hungry, so we went downtown. I had eaten at a place called Baileys earlier this year when my friend Joe was in town so we went back there. After that we walked up and down Lower Broad a couple of times basically settling outside Rippys listening to some band play. They were rather eclectic playing anything from Big and Rich to AC/DC. Lisas toe was hurting so we came home at about 2am. All in all not a bad night.

So Tues night went to Zanies here in Nashville to see Ralphie May - literally in tears laughing so hard. Got to meet him after the show

Then Sunday we went the annual Lone Wolf Tattoo and Horror Festival

1st we met Scout Taylor-Compton - Laurie Stroud from Rob Zombies version of Halloween - she seemed impressed that i knew she is up for the award for the Scared Shitless award on the MTV Movie Awards

Dee Snider of Twisted Sister was also there - he signed my VHS copy of Strangeland and told me the sequel is coming out 1st quarter 2011 - We grew up kinda near each other on Long Island and we talked about the clubs TS used to play at before they got famous

in-between all that i got to go to a local lowbrow art show and made friends with my new tattoo artists, and check out some bands at a coffee shop nearby

All in all I'd say I had a damned good week off

So I went to my Dr. a couple weeks back and had my "over-40 physical". Not bad overall except my cholesterol is through the roof. So I have to change how I eat.

I'm now trying to eat more low-fat heart healthy meals. My girlfriend is on the train with me and she's cooking these heart healthier meals.

I have my next physical on 4/20 of all days LOL. Wish me luck that my cholesterol is lower.

So last night I start working on my truck. I needed to replace the quick disconnect for the heater hose and the thermostat gasket. The disconnect wasn't too bad, just a pain in the ass because there isn't a whole lot of room in the engine compartment. Then I moved on to the thermostat gasket. Started out OK. Figured out that the gasket is an o-ring that goes around the thermostat. So far, so good. What I didn't realize is that I needed a gasket to go between the thermostat housing and the intake manifold.

I also didn't realize that I put a electrical holder dealie between the housing and the intake manifold. Well this allowed coolant to flow like a river out of my engine. Made it about 2 miles towards work. Luckily I had a couple of bottles of anti-freeze in the bed of the truck. poured a bottle in and limped to a local mechanic. He showed me my fuck-up. Unfortunately I have an intake leak, so I am gonna let them fix it.

There goes the money I was saving to get the 750 kit for my Triumph :(

So I sent my gas tank to Elswick Cycles to get Frisco'ed, the petcock moved back, the filler cap moved forward and new mounting points added to it. The gas tank filler bung was in a different box. I check USPS tracking last night. The filler bung made it, the gas tank is coming back to me. Apparently even though I printed off 2 copies of the mailing address as given to me by Elswick the PO can't deliver 2 packages to the same place. That tank wasn't cheap to send and now I gotta do it again!!! Yeah, I'm a bit pissy!!!!
